Windows Live is dead, long live WL apps - WinNews.com
Microsoft kicked off the month of May by announcing that they are discontinuing the Windows Live brand, saying the Windows Live apps and services were built on versions of Windows that weren’t designed to connect to a cloud service and citing customer confusion. They released a chart showing the transition process for many of the current services.
This seems to be further confirmation of Microsoft’s “all in” commitment to the cloud, but had some folks worried that we’re going to lose some of our most useful applications, such as Windows Live Writer. A petition sprang up to beg Microsoft not to kill it.
A tweet from Chris Jones (Windows Live VP) on May 3 seems to lay those fears to rest, saying: “all desktop apps work great and are supported on Windows 8, including WL Writer.”
