Hmm, can you please tell me which files and/or protocols you want to open with Windows Mail to access the newsgroups?
I will try to extend my registry file.

I'm already using it for newgroups with no problem. The reason it wont become the default news handler is that there is no other news handler installed. Ergo, it IS the default, by default, if you get what I mean.

It was the question of why I could take the default setting away form Incredimail Premium that was puzzling me. But I put it down to the fact that Windows 7 does not support Windows Mail in any case, so it's just probably ignoring the fact that it's active.

Try this registry file. It is an addition to the first one. You will be able to configure Windows Mail under "Default Programs" and Windows Mail itself will show that it is the defaul handler for mails and news.

OK it didn't make Windows Mail appear in Default Programs but it does appear under "Set Program Access & Defaults" and if I then force it to be default there my other email programs asks me to make it default again, yet Windows Mail options never shows that it is the default at any time during this procedure.

Very weird. Thanks for all help!!

I'm glad it worked! One thing is still missing though. In Windwos Vista "Default Programs" shows two entries for Windows Mail, one for 'Client' and one for 'News'.
Guess I'll have to search some registry again.

I noticed that but in Win 7 my Windows Mail is showing as the default news program in WM Options if not in the Default Programs section so something is working.

I hope I'm not breaking the rules here: MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service

    It's zipped at that URL.
