Error 1325: Can't Uninstall/Install Old Lotus Software
I have a fresh install of Win7 Pro 32 bit and all my software (including Office 2007) is installed and working well except for one, and it's driving me crazy. I have a need to use Lotus 123 to access some old spreadsheet files on a regular basis so I installed that portion of the LotusSuite 9.8.2 software. The install appeared to go smoothly but because I was installing lots of stuff, I didn't take the time right then to open the program to make sure it worked.
Earlier today, I tried to open it for the first time and it wouldn't. The screen just blinked at me a couple of times and nothing happened. I tracked down the executable file and tried from there. No dice. I tried to uninstall the program and got an error message: "Error 1325.localimages ... is not a valid short file name". I've tried all this from both the user account and from the admin account (this is not a network machine).
I've researched this as much as I am able and there's not a lot out there about it. Apparently Error 1325 is not necessarily related to a file name problem. I've run chkdsk (or the modern equivalent) on the drives in question and there appears to be no problems with file names or corruption.
BTW, this older program doesn't install itself into the "Programs" section of the "C" drive. In this case, it is in a separate folder on a second data drive. I have tried moving the whole thing to the "C" drive and also into the Programs directory of the "C" drive and tried everything from there. No dice, just this same error message.
Interestingly, I installed this same program on my new Win7 Pro laptop a few weeks ago and there have been absolutely no problems, so it shouldn't be a compatibility issue with the software or its age. (This version is stated as being compatible with Win7.)
Anyway, I'm completely stumped by this. Any ideas how I can force an uninstall or diagnose the meaning of the error message?
