Canon RAW (*.cr2) codec in x64?

Has anyone anything new information about Windows 7 x64 and Canon RAW codec? I mean thumbnail view in explorer. Canon has it's own editing software, Digital Photo Professional, and that works fine. So editing is not my problem.

    Hi,

Unfortunately the display of thumbnails in x64 versions of windows (not just Windows7) is a major issue, unless canon include the required x64 filter with their application it is unlikely that others will do this.

I think this is an issue that is improving as x64 becomes more popular you may want to put this to canon directly.

Not sure if you could try something like picasa viewer or irfanview as a temporary measure - both claim RAW image viewing but not sure of formats

I believe that Canon hasn't developed a codec for X64.

If you're willing to spend some additional funds ($30US), there's a third-party option:

File extension CR2 support - x64 and x86 CODEC for Windows Vista - Windows Imaging Component CODEC for Canon RAW format files

    There's a 15 day trial download available.

I tried it. It seemed to work fine.

I found it. Got a good tip. Check this:

Fast Picture Viewer | WIC Codec Pack for Windows 7, Vista and XP

I installed it to a Win 7 64-bit Enterprise, and it works great. Thumbnails, Windows Phto Viewer and all. It's still in beta, but no problems so far.

    It looks like a cybersquatter.

The actual site seems to be www.fastone.org.
