For the routine file copy stuff, I still like TeraCopy but I find the latest beta version works better on W7.

You could give this a try:

FastCopy

Because Reading/Writing are processed with no OS cache at all, other applications aren't easy to become heavy.

It can bring out Reading/Writing performance that is close to device limit.

Include/Exclude Filter (UNIX Wildcard style) can be specified.

It runs lightly, because MFC is not used. (made by Win32 API and C Runtime only)

You can modify this software, because all source codes have been opened to the public in the BSD license.

For one thing, if you have a few thousand files and try to drag & drop with explorer, it will spend like, hours collecting all the filenames. RichCopy just starts copying right away as it's a command line tool with a Gui dressing. I think that's what's meant about caching etc.. along with file system caching.

One thing is certain.. Something must be done.. I removed Teracopy, installed Rich Copy, but found it to be not so fast either. I then decided to intiate a 216 file transfer from one drive to another last night through windows.. When I checked on it this morning, it was about half way, but the dialog was up asking what I wanted to do, as a number of files I was transferring already existed in the destination directory. I set it to overwrite all, and now 3.5 hours later, it looks like this..

I have found that Terracopy 2.1 works fine in Windows 7 when you lower the UAC (User Account Control) to one of the two lowest levels. I am able to copy 4Gb files with no problem!

Anywho... at the moment, I am getting horribly frustrated with Teracopy, with whom I have been having a brief but passionate love affair over the last few days.. Seems, when transferring large folders, Teracopy sometimes just stops.. and stops.. for long times.. and I am not yet clear if this is a windows thing, or a Teracopy thing.. In windows transfer, the same bogus crap seems to occur, but because of the vague progress bar, you never quite really no for sure.. With Teracopy, all the vagueness is gone, and you can see it silently choking on a single small file.. Oh the rub..

I just started a transfer 207gb in size. It is now stuck at 9.6%.. going to give it a few, and will post if it picks itself back up..

In the mean time, am open to suggestions..

Try this;

KillCopy

Don't be disturbed by the "unusual" English, it very fast and reliable. Does not suffer from some of Teracopy's quirks when transferring large files etc. Especially on networks where Teracopy also has a lot of quirks.

Or just use a file-backup program as previously suggested.

When you say "one drive to another" you are talking physical drives?
Something is strange because I copied 206,000 files over the network without a problem. You probably didn't use the correct options.

Strange..I use Tera for everything I push out on to my two external USB drives
Are you sure it's not your Anti virus causing those extended stop and go issues?
(like checking it once on the sending drive and a second time on the receiving drive)
