Lua Error when installing programs

Hi everyone,
I was wondering if someone could please help me.
Any time I try to install a program from download.cnet.com I get an error that says

"Lua Error!

This happens for every program that I have tried from download.cnet.com, but I haven't had the problem with installing programs from other sites. I have a second computer and I have no problems installing programs from download.cnet.com onto that computer. I've searched the internet for a solution but I haven't found anything like it. I can still install programs from everywhere except download.cnet.com (at least I haven't run into problems yet), so it's not a huge deal but it would be really nice to be able to download programs from download.cnet.com because it is a very useful resource.

P.S. I'm not sure if it matters but I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit on an HP Pavilion g6 notebook.

I have EXACTLY the same problem installing programs from download.cnet.com but only in the last few weeks. In the past I didn't have this problem. Now I am getting the same error message as you. S there nobody on this forum who can help us getting to the ground of this annoying problem Help will be appreciated. Cheers!

Hi what browsers are you using? i would also suggest 1st updating all of the current add on's you are using. Then if still trouble disable them, and or try to find out which one is causing the problem.
Also try logging in to cnet and there should be a link underneath the green download button, called Direct download. This will not run the cnet installer, and will provide you with the direct download.
If you are using internet explorer go to settings, internet options, advanced and then press reset. Then while in the same place(settings, internet options, advanced), find "disable script debugging(other)" and "disable script debugging (internet explorer)". Even if you do not use internet explorer try the instructions written in red.

I am using Firefox 15. I will try disabling add-ons as you suggested. They are all up- to- date though. Thanx also for telling me about the DIRECT DOWNLOAD button at cnet but my aim is not neccessarily to be able to download from cnet but to diagnose the problem (so I will hopefully learn more about my PC). Thank you Skylais.

Hey cheers! Disabling add-ons helped. I suspect Bitdefender TrafficLight or Noscript to be the culprit. Thanx again.

It's good to know I'm not the only one with this problem, I was worried that I messed something up on my computer.
The direct download works well (thanks, can't believe I didn't notice that before) so I didn't bother trying to disable add-ons.

Good news, and i am not so fond of Cnet's installer. I really wish they would just make it all direct download like it used to be. Maybe a way to get more users to sign up. Anyways thanks for the feedback, good bye and live well.:)

can someone help explain this further? I have attempted to download a couple of games from cnet and 1 from soft32.com I was hit with this LUA ERROR! on both of these installs.

can someone elaborate a bit on which add-ons to disable? I have tried downloading through the current update of firefox as well as chrome.

anythoughts?!

Ok well for add ons to disable you have to play around until you find the problematic one.
Try this as well from one of y previous posts:
