Windows Update and Windows Features dont work.

    hi all

First I know this has been asked a many times but no solutions seems to work for me. I have a bunch of stuff going wrong and all seems to related to each other.

I am running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.
That is how the problem progressed:

    1. I was trying to enable Telnet service and found out that 'Turn Windows Features on/off' in Control panel > Programs and Features is a blank list.

I checked on internet and i found out that it means my windows update wont be working as well so i check it:

    2. Windows update gives the error 80070002 and it does not check for updates.

    3. Again check net and it said to run sfc/scannow in command prompt (as administrator). I did it. and it gives error 'Windows Resource Protection can't execute the command'.

I have tried everything. I have tried:

    1. msconfig.exe to enable/disable services and restarting and rechecking.
    2. Uninstalling my Avast Antivirus.
    3. Running MS Fixit tool.
    4. I have checked disk check in advanced startup options.
    5. Deleted 'C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download' contents and recheck the Windows update facility.

Nothing works. I dont have Windows CD coz my laptop came installed with windows.

    Thanks for reading. and helping

    Thanks for replying Golden.

I tried everything EXCEPT Windows Update Readiness tool. I downloaded it but it came out to be corrupt. Have to try again.

    But till now no success.

Is it some problem with windows starting services?

    thanks

    Hi,

Yes, it certainly sounds that way. Run the Readiness Tool when you can.
