    Burning fails in Windows 7

I've tried Nero 8 &9, cdburnerXP, Roxio, Ashampoo and "every" disc fails to burn using these programs. On the otherhand Imgburn works fine.
I'm running Windows 7 Professional and had Ultimate running with the same outcome. Latest version with all updates.
It's as if anything that doens't burn in the same way that Imgburn does will fail. It doesn't even get to burn to the disc actually it will do it's intro and then say fail. I can hear the drive spin up but after about 1 minute says burning failed.
I also tried using Burrrn to burn FLAC files to an audio cd and Burrrn fails as well. I probally could handle it and use Imgburn but how do I burn FLAC files with Imgburn? I most likley will revert back to Vista until WIndows 7 SP1 comes out.

Hmm well there could be multiple problems -

    1. What write speed are you trying to burn at? Don't burn @ maximum best will be 6 - 8x.

    2. I'm using Alcohol 120% and I've never had a single burn ever fail I don't see why thoes programs would.

    3. Are you sure you have a properly working DVD burner?

Its weird that only ImgBurn would burn but none of the others..... Hmm have you made sure the disc ImgBurn burns works? Anyway answer theses and I'll get back with whatever information I can as soon as possible!

    Thanks,

I had issues with ImgBurn in Win7 and DoubleLayers, i guess about 6 out of 10 failed to burn. Also Nero failed asfter 50%.
Then I used the Win7 burn engine and this burned the DL correctly.
Maybe an issue of the Win 7 Burnengine and other burning programs

Nero 8 works just fine on my Windows 7 RC installation. I only install the Express Essentials SE, I don't install any other thing on the Nero CD, no audio junk, and no SmartStart. I also always burn at at half or less of the maximum speed that Nero defaults to. You have to press the arrow on the left of the screen to get to the burning speed.

Is your system x64? If so, did you attempt to change the default media player to the x64 version using a process published by someone named ChrisNT? If you answered yes to all of the above, I have a solution.

Ok. I ended up reformatting and installing Vista and had similiar problems.
So I ended up taking out my Pioneer 112 and chaning over the sata cable and installing my Asus burner. I still have the Pionner Blu Ray Rom drive in which writes DVDs and reads BR discs.
So after Vista displaying the same behaviour I reformatted again and installed Win 7 back on. It seems to be going ok now (touch wood) but do use Clone DVD 2 which when using I could encode and burna DVD with its built-in burn engine but for some reason burns started failing. So I was using the create ISO function and then burning that ISO with Imgburn which seems to work ok.
Nero 9 seems to be ok to as well so it's all a bit of a mystery.
The only thing I can think of is it may have been something to do with my chipset drivers but then I dont know why I was seeing failures in Vista as well. Could have been a faulty drive and sata cable but then why was it happening in the other drive as well.
But putting another drive in and a new sata cable seems to have fixed it for the time being anyway, so go figure. Probally one of those gremlins of computing that rears it's head every so ofte.
Ohh and Sharky no I dont have any variation to media player and am running Win 7 x64 Professional.

The last version of Nero I bought was 6 Ultra but every version I tried I noticed it was very touchy. I had to turn AutoStart and AutoPlay off, and insert a blank and wait until the drive LED stopped flashing... then bring up Nero Burning ROM.

Otherwise, about 1 out of 5 times, the registry settings for Nero would be corrupted. I had to uninstall, use the Nero removal or clean-up tool to get all the registry stuff out, then reinstall.

I'm not sure if that's it in your case but it's a good idea to get that variable out of the equation. For FLAC conversion, if Burrrn doesn't work, you can either try CDBurnerXP or explicitly convert the flac yourself using free software. You can find out about FLAC here:

    FLAC - download

edit: also Winamp can do FLAC but it may require a Plugin.
