Install and Uninstall problem

I am new too this and appreciate any help that someone can give me.

I lost something and I installed a program to help me find it on my computer. I cannot remember the name of the program and when I installed it...sometime ago.

Well now I have all kinds of things on my computer...ie pictures of cogs, pictures of frames, pictures of colors and lines etc. etc. It appears that when I used the program to find something it went all the way back to what looks like things that were put on the Window 7 when it was first put into the computer. The other day when I was using something on the computer it indicated that I had 80,000 items, the majority of which are the pictures of cogs etc. that I have indicated above.

Someone told me that I should delete these items. Some of the items I can delete. Some of them have to be deleted by the adminstrator, and some have to be deleted what appears to be a computer specialist. I deleted some things but decided to stop since I really don't know what I should or should not delete.

As you can see this is a real mess that I have gotten into. I hope someone can help me. Thank you. P.S. I did not find what I was looking for.

If you installed a program it should be listed in start>all programs.

Is it not there ?

If you store data, or whatever, in documents or a folder you created then it will be there.

More than likely, a recovery program was installed to find the lost object. Users of recovery programs normally run them on data drives rather than operating system drives.

The program was executed on the system drive (unfiltered?) and the 80,000+ results were saved.

The program should be listed in control panel/programs and features for a possible uninstall.

The recovery results were probably saved in a separate non-system folder. Therefore, they are recoverd duplicates. However, some files may be duplicates of operating system files, which makes the task of removing them difficult.

I had downloaded a program from the computer. It was to help me to find something that I deleted. I did uninstall the program since it was not of any help to me. After I uninstalled this program I noticed that there were now pictures of cogs, lines, colors, etc. etc. which I am assuming were things that were actually on the Window 7 program that was installed on the computer that I purchased. I have received some suggestions that are very helpful. Is there some criteria as to what I should remove and not remove? When I try to delete things I am asked to be sure that I want to delete the item or an administrator must approve (the administrator is my husband) the deletion. The last option for deleting is something I would not do since I believe a technician or someone who works with computers would have to delete. It is I am sure a real mess that I have gotten myself into.

I also have pictures of lines, colors, small pictures of people and more. As I said in my previous thread I wonder if this information was part of the Window 7 program that was installed in the computer when I purchased it. Thank for the help I have received. P.S. If you would release your husband from the locked dungeon, he might help you delete the 80,000+ files.

If that is not an option and/or all joking aside, these recovered files should reside in a single non-operating system folder. Therefore, they are unneeded duplicate files. To confirm, randomly select a file from this folder. Search your computer (c:\ drive) for this file. Do this a handful of times (random sampling) with other files to solidify your confirmation that they are duplicates and they all reside in this singular folder.

Report back on the file path (location) of this singular folder.

I once used Windows Disk Cleanup for the heck of it and possibly free up some storage space. Instead, the program cleaned out all that I had stored on the external hard drive. I won't go near Disk Cleanup, EVER.

I also tried a handful of recovery programs to restore my data. In the end, we learn what to do and what not to do. Downloads from the internet are part of the experience.

I finally told my husband what I did to my computer. I think I might be the person going to the dungeon. Humor and the fact, gigagiggles, that you have done something on your computer that you probably shouldn't have, made me feel better about what I did.

Anyway, I thank you for reply. The problem is that I really don't understand what I am supposed to do. I can get off and on the computer and do simple things but the ins and outs how to correct something on the computer, as you suggested, is way over my head. But I really appeciate that you tried to help me.

By the time I really learn how to do computer work something will probably be invented that will replace the computer. Oh well...
