Windows Voice Recognition unresponsive and renders Win7 OS unstable

I've just purchased a brand new Sony Vaio netbook with Win7 Home Premium 64bit, (1.7Ghz CPU, 4GB RAM).

As soon as I activate the Windows Speech Recognition (WSR) software which comes with the Win7 OS, the computer becomes very unstable and fails to open programs, even the task manager (Ctrl+Alt+Del). As soon as I close WSR all of the commands (i.e. to open other applications) are suddenly executed.

I have updated the audio drivers, but this hasn't helped.

Even though this is a new PC, I would run the System File Checker

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Also, usually OEM PCs come loaded with bloatware and trial programs (lousy AV programs, etc.). You might look into seeing what something like PC Decrapifier finds on your system
