WinRAR now opens all exe files (Urgent)

Hello title says it all I accidently set winrar to open all exe files, basicly I can no longer open any programs and when I log onto my pc it just gives me an huge number of error messages and I cant access anything.
I found out how to fix this problem IF my pc was not turned off how ever I shut my pc down in the hope it would corrupt the previous data.
Any help on how to sort this would be apprecited as I have alot of work thats due soon for various subjects.
    Thanks for any input -silver

Have you tried restoring to a previous System Restore point?

    File Extension Type - Unassociate

Default File Type Associations - Restore

From the tutorial, I haven't seen any .exe files be mentioned, just a .reg file (Registry file) which you merge into the Registry with the file extension you wish to restore to it's defaults (see further down in tutorial).

I see you have marked the thread as solved, do your .exe files open now?
