I rely on the Windows automated tool. This one in 7 works great - gets to work as soon as it detects a longer idle period.

One thing though, I think the boot defragmentation is done separately.

    See:

Anyone have any good experiences with something that is 'Automatic'
    O&O Defrag Pro v12

Default Options allow Background Defragmenting, with less than 1/8 total resource usage. Adjusts with the performance & resource level of your current computer activity.

Out of 5 Stars, in my personal opinion, I'd give O&O Defrag Pro v12 an 8.

Good post. +1 I've been using this and prior versions for a few years now. It's excellent and you could do offline (when Windows boots before it is up)
defrag of your partitions and/or drives to get important files for disk speed, that you can not do in a running Windows machine.

Anyone looking to do this, you need to use the scheduler function of the program while creating and adding a job, so ya know. Click "add job", top left.

I don't use the background function. And now they have optional zones that group files together according to it's access. I don't use that either but I tried it. They're cool options though.

    Restore Points Gone

Well, don't know what's up here, but every time I run an "optimzed" defrag,my restore points disappear. To date I've tried IObit's Smart Defrag,Disktrix Defrag Express, and just moments ago,My Defrag v4.2.1.I believe I may have tried JK a while back because they advetised it as "shadow copy aware",but same result.I do note, browsing through services, that Microsoft Software Shadow Copy Provider and Volume Shadow Copy are set to run on Demand.Should these be set to auto start? I am able to create my own restore points, but notice that Win is not creating one daily as I believe I read it is supposed to.Could someone shed some light on this please? Thanks in advance.

Yes as per my last quote, I have been using o&o and I have to say, it's been what a week or two and I forgot I even had it. After installation, I played with the settings, turned on 'auto' and haven't heard or seen a hint of it since. Unlike, Diskeeper in which when I sat down at my desk, computer idling, I could tell Diskeeper was doing it's thing as the HD light was lit up but as I stated earlier, my drives were still always defragged, seemed like Diskeeper wasn't even doing anything.

Since o&o and me forgetting that it was there, I decided to fire up the GUI and do an 'analyze' as I can't recall ever seeing the computer tasking over the past couple weeks so I wasn't even sure if it was doing anything in the background, sure enough though, the results of the analysis were showing almost nil changes and yes I have done plenty of installing, moving, unraring, etc.

    Definitely recommend o&o!

It's worth the buy, for those who don't already own it, I can guarantee that. :)

I first purchased O&O Defrag 11.5 when I was running Vista... Got their customer alert notification, and was "awarded" a free upgrade to 12 for Win7 compatibility.

O&O is one of the few companies that allows free upgrades (not just updates) for their software.

Latest Perfectdisk is all you need. Even Windows 7 certified. Why use anything else?
