First borrow or make a win7 install or repair CD. Then do a System Restore to go back in time to prior to problems.
I can't believe \Windows\system32\config\system is missing. Corruption is more likely but why twice a month? So do a checkdisk as well.

Does this work and do you see "repair your computer"? https://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/666-advanced-boot-options.html

System Restore option TWO
And System Recovery Options then "command prompt"
dir c:\
dir d:\
what's the OS drive?
Code:
chkdsk/f c:
chkdsk/f d:
Thanks for the suggestions guys, but I was already able to fix this problem. I did borrow a Windows 7 DVD and repaired it. But I have a question. How can I make a Repair CD for Win 7 Ultimate 64bit? Thanks
How did you do it? startup repair or system restore?
do a chkdsk as well!
