Can't install software due to admin priveleges on new win 7 install

I have just installed an 128gb ssd drive on my desktop computer. I'm using it mainly as a system disk with my old hard drive as the place where i'm installing most of my general program files.

I'm having lots of issues with admin rights when installing some software and deleting some old programmes. I have spent ages with 'take ownership', enabled hidden admin rights and generally have edited permissions in various security tabs.

I've had W7 installed on this pc before using my DVD and never had these issues before. Everything has just installed smoothly.

Any ideas what I'm missing?

Hmm, it may be, but I am using the same firewall and I was getting these issues before I had reinstalled my AV.

I am running as admin and have taken ownership. One of the programmes that wont install is Nero 12. It requires a reboot to install, and after the auto reboot it starts to install automatically. There is no way to interrupt the process to re assert admin rights.

I also cannot remove some old windows files from the old (now slave) hard drive in order to maximise disk space for storage.

I managed to install eventually. I had to go and change admin permissions in my start menu folder.

I have never had to mess about with permissions before, especially with a clean install. I'm puzzled as to whats different and really would like to get rid of all the permissions thing as much as is practical.

There is only me that uses the pc, so no need for various admin accounts.

It sounds like you never blanked your old drive out before doing the install. Since it was likely your old system drive, all of the security from your old system was present, and I'm also going to guess that you didn't use the same username and password on the new install, too.

If you wanted to avoid this in the future, backup your data from the second drive, and then once the OS is installed, format the drive as a data drive and then copy all of your files and such back to it. I also always use the same username and password on my home computer(s).

Also, you are missing out on one of the benefits of an SSD if you are installing your program elsewhere. Aside from large games, I would install everything to the SSD.

My old drive didn't have any security - I never used to get all these permission niggles. Also, as I am the only user, I never set a password either.

My main programmes are on the ssd drive, but I dont want to fill it up with non critical software as its only 128gb.
