Opening a .CDR file ?
I'd like to a open a CorelDraw .cdr file & convert it to .jpg or some other file type. Is there any recommendation on a good freeware program to do this?

From what I could find out, .cdr is a proprietary format used by Corel software and is not recognized by most image editing programs.

However, you may be able to use the open source Inkscape which has capabilities similar to Illustrator, CorelDraw, or Xara X, using the W3C standard Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) file format.

I did look at Inkscape, but from what I can tell it only converts to other vector graphic formats such as SVG or PDF files.
I saw a couple websites that have older versions of Paint Shop Pro & they appear to be free because there is no mention about buying them. But that sounds too good to be true. Maybe it's legit because the versions go back to something like 2004 to 2007. However I'm not about to experiment & am looking for a recommended safe download.

Download the 30 day free trial, open up your file and save it in the format you want to, then you can let the trial either expire or delete the program Professional Graphic Design Software - CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X6

You might try right clicking on image then "Open with" paint/ go to save as and there will be jpeg, gif, bmp. png other ways to convert image.

I initially tried right clicking & also opening in the graphic programs I have. Problem is that .cdr is a vector graphic & supposedly proprietary to Corel.
I thought about using a 30 day free trial & might end up going that route. The .cdr is a return address logo & it might be nice to scale it for different size envelopes as the need arises. Which means it would be nice to have a program always at my disposal. But I might have to forget that convenience.
But I am curious about these 2 sites & how legit they are.

Your first link doesn't work well with Firefox for me, and I'm not sure how legit the second link is.
If you're not using it for commercial use you can get coreldraw x6 home and student which has 99% of the same features as the full version for as little as between $70 and $129 I just googled it.

I use FF 17.0.1 and just tried Old Version Downloads - OldApps.com a few times & comes right up.
Which version of FF are you using?

One of the problems with CDR format is that it changes with CorelDRAW versions. Inkscape will only open up to CorelDRAW X4. You can use Inkscape to convert vector to bitmap graphics. You have to use File->Export Bitmap instead of File-Save.

The original .CDR logo was presumably created with CorelDRAW. It was given to me about 1999 in order to resize it to meet postal requirements. I never had CorelDRAW but recall having something called Micrographix or similar. And maybe a version of Paint Shop Pro way back then. I would have had to re-save it in one of those two programs.
Since it's an old .CDR file would it be safe to presume that Inkscape could open it & also re-scale it?
And then export it to a format that a commercial printer can use.
