The original .CDR logo was presumably created with CorelDRAW. It was given to me about 1999 in order to resize it to meet postal requirements. I never had CorelDRAW but recall having something called Micrographix or similar. And maybe a version of Paint Shop Pro way back then. I would have had to re-save it in one of those two programs.

Since it's an old .CDR file would it be safe to presume that Inkscape could open it & also re-scale it?
And then export it to a format that a commercial printer can use.
    Mike,
If you want send me or one of us the CDR file and I will open it in Corel Draw Graphic Suite 5X and send it back to you in a different format.

I purchased the Suite 5X on e-bay for around $100.00 over 1.5 years ago.

Yes it should work. Inkscape can save in a number of formats. EPS may be what you need for a commercial printer.

Inkscape would not open my CDR file. I get a message UniConverter Failed, followed by several lines of file locations & line numbers which seem to be where errors occurred.

I installed the trial version of CorelDRAW X6.
It opens the file but states there is an invalid fill ID, whatever that is. I click on Ignore & the file opens. I then save it with a new CDR filename, but I get the same error message when I try to open this new CDR file with Inkscape. It appears the error is being carried over to the new CDR file.

Then I saved it as an SVG file & I get an SVG Export screen which gives me General information and also states there are 2 Issues.

    The upper box states:
    Invalid IDs found
    Non-RGB colors

    The lower box states:
Details: One or more IDs used are either duplicates or contain invalid syntax.
Suggestions: Check all group, object & symbol instance names to ensure they are not duplicated within the file & do not start with a number. Duplicate & invalid IDs will automatically be appended on export.

It appears I should save & use the SVG file. This means I will not need CorelDRAW. But what should I do about the duplicate and/or invalid IDs?

I get that all the time when I save as SVG and just ignore it.

Using Inkscape I exported the image as a PNG bitmap. It looked OK in Windows Photo Viewer & Windows Paint. But Photoshop Elements displayed a gray & white background checkerboard pattern. Irfanview displayed basically a negative, & the main logo looked dark gray.

I saw a Transparency checkbox in CorelDRAW when exporting to PNG & it controlled the checkerboard background. I then found a similar setting in Inkscape > Document Properties. That solved the checkerboard issue & also let Irfanview display a proper image.

But with Transparency enabled why would PE show the background but not Photo Viewer or Paint? And why would Irfanfiew display a black background?

The checkerboard pattern and the black background, I think is the software's way of showing transparent pixels.

That would be my thought too.
