Free program to check for software updates

    Hi,

Can you recommend a free on demand scanner to identify software on my PC that is outdated...?

Even better if it also could update it.

    Thanks,

Search the forum for "Ninite.com". It may suit your needs.
Sevenforums members use it and rate it well.

Secunia PSI. I've been using it for years.

Secunia has an online version (OSI) that you can also try - it does require Java to be installed.

The installed version of Secunia PSI doesn't require Java (don't know about the online version).

I installed Secunia. Very nice. One thing I noticed it wanted to update F-Secure, something I un-installed long time ago. I scanned my PC and could not find any traces of this program.

    Thanks,

The new PSI 3 is a dumbed down version. Here is a zip file of ver 2.0.0.4003 which was the last PSI 2 version. In the Scan Results you can expand each program and it will list the path to the file it found. PSI does not check every program but only shows those that have had security problems.

Secunia is great, but more security centric. I have a program I use to check for updates, but even if you get the correct installer, it still offers to install a few unwanted programs. You can select not to install them, but I hesitate to mention the program lest you, or others reading the post, just download it and install. I could make some screen shots showing how to do it if you are interested. A Guy
