    Trying to unistall Messenger

When I try to uninstall messenger via programs and features>live essentials I click the"remove one or more
    Windows live programs"
I don't get the window to choose what program to remove.
It flashes another window so fast I can't see it and then "The programs you selected have been uninstalled"

I selected the repair option ,it ran and added some "windows live active mesh remote or something" to programs and features
    which I removed right afterwards.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

Microsoft is in the process of switching from Messenger to Skype. In most parts of the world Messenger will stop working later this month (March 2013.) If you download and install Skype it will also de-install Messenger. Then, if you do not want Skype you should be able to de-install it normally.

Thanks bbinnard,I don't want either skype or messenger.
So I have to upgrade to skype via outlook and then uninstall skype?
Is there a reason I can't uninstall messenger?
My wife just removed messenger(windows 7) out of live essentials with no problems at all
I don't seem to have the option of even removing all of windows live essentials

Since the standard way of de-installing Messenger did not work for you the only other way I know of to uninstall it is to install Skype. When I did this it put up a message saying Messenger would be de-installed, Skye would be installed, and all my Messenger contacts wold get moved to Skype.

This is exactly what happened. I still have Skype installed (because I use it) but I presume you could use normal methods to uninstall it.
