Is SpeedFan the only application that monitors temps? It functions moderately but the GUI looks outdated and unpolished (to say the least) and really needs some design rework. I wish Lavalys's ( Lavalys - Comprehensive IT Security and Management ) Everest Ultimate would actually combine with speedfan or make their own and do something with the plethora of configuration, and system information it collects.

What would be great is if Microsoft created a system temp monitoring, fan adjusting, and over-temperature alert solution with windows 7 under accessories. I may have to wait for windows 8, because this may be asking too much.

Hello James, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Core Temp is a pretty nice free program for monitoring CPU temps with alerts. It has to be manually restarted though after a startup, or after a log off and log on though.

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn

If you want booth monitoring and control of fan speeds, to my knowledge, Speedfan is the only one. I fully agree that the gui is horrible and configuration is a royal PITA but at least for now I have to stick with it.

If you have a dell there is a custom app that reads and adjust fan control and dropped my tems by 10F. If you are interested the home page is here Dell Inspiron Inspiron/Latitude/Precision fan control the name is i8kan.

I found a few but none of them ever work quite the way you want and I still can't find a single app that can handle all areas of the system with fan controls bundled. I want to be able to adjust fans and see cpu gpu and more.

The only three I know of are Hardware Monitor (hmonitor.net), CoreTemp and RealTemp.

That would be a killer app. For now a control freak like me has to put up with two configuration nightmares, Speedfan and Rivatuner. But we can always dream:)
