Safari browser not remembering username and password

I'm having problems with the browser not asking me to save my usernames and passwords. I have the "username and password" box checked in preferences and I got it to save one but no others. I cleared the cache, reset Safari, re-visited the site, signed in and did not get a prompt from Safari. I'm using 5.1.7.

    Any help is appreciated.

Step No. 5 does not work, it does not ask me if I want Safari to save this password.

Thanks for your quick reply and suggestion.

Thanks for the link, but it's basically the same info as the first link.

I see suggestions (mostly Apple related of course), of deleting the keychain.plist and recreating your passwords list. It will be located at

    C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\Preferences\keychain.plist

I would instead rename it to something like keychain.plist.bak and if it does not work, you can rename it back.

I would save your login info if you don't remember them all

I usually don't suggest another program when users want to fix something, so I tried to offer a fix first, but in this case. Safari for Windows is no longer being supported, and is no longer secure.

The issue is that the final version that Windows users are stuck with–version 5.1.7–has a number of documented security vulnerabilities that are never going to get patched by Apple. According to Maximum PC, there are at least 121 known security holes listed in Apple’s own documentation. And as time goes by, it is extremely likely that the number of unpatched security holes will increase. Running an outdated browser is not good security practice, and running a browser that is EOL and has known vulnerabilities is just asking for trouble.

There are also much better browsers available, even before they stopped support. A Guy

Yikes, thanks for that, didn't know Safari has been abandoned, yeah I would stop using then ASAP, so many others to try:

Maxthon, Firefox, Opera, and Chrome, are where I would start.

Thanks for this. Rather than fix it, I'm going to dump it. I didn't know either that it was not being kept up to date. The only reason I like it is because of so many cool addons. I'll just go back to IE.
    Thanks for your great help!

Have a play with some of the great browsers available. All the ones Faladu mentioned have extensions and/or addons. They are free, and if you don't like them, just dump them too
