    Microsoft Security Essentials 64bit

    I am about to build a new desktop PC that I intend to install Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. Is there a 64 bit Microsoft Security Essentials to use?

    Thanks for any info.

    Here is a MS link where you can choose the Language and OS Version for the download.
    Download Microsoft Security Essentials - Microsoft Windows

    Hope this helps,

    you could have also tried Windows Update, it would have been in the optional updates as well

    @huffman - You're welcome.

    Windows Update does not offer updates for Security Essentials on systems where Security Essentials is not already installed.
    If it was offered as an optional update, it would probably cause a lot of problems.
    Some people might install it when they are using another Anti Virus program...

    Maybe it gets offered on systems where there is NO AV installed, I don't know for sure.
    I've never run a system without an AV program.

    MSE is available on Microsoft Update, which is the opt-in portion of Windows Update and it is only offered if no Anti-Virus is detected in Security Center.

    I have using Windows 7 since it first came out and I have never seen MSE offered in either the Important updates or Optional Updates.

    Granted I have only used the 32 bit version of windows 7 and this will be the first time I have used the 64 bit version it may be there.

    Did you opt into Microsoft Update?

    that is wierd because Security Essentials was released in September 2009, it should have been optional when Windows 7 first came out

    Microsoft Security Essentials is a option and option only. This is done to keep Microsoft out of court.
