Switching from Virtual dub to movie editor compression help

Hey guys, i like to make videos (mainly walkthroughs and playthroughs) and post them on youtube. I record using FRAPS so naturally the files end up being huge, anywhere between 20GB-300!
To solve this i usually use Virtual Dub and i compress it using x264xfw codec which works wonders because it can reduce it to under 2GB and still keep quality. However lately i want to use something like a movie editor, kinda like sony vegas studio or something to add intros/outros, edit mistakes out etc.
The problem with this though is that sony vegas and other editors use their own templates for compression and dont keep things like same resolution, FPS and so forth and when i tried it at my friends, the file was still massive, about 100GB.
So my question is, is there anyway i can import codec/codec settings so i can maintain my current level of compression while being able to edit videos? If needed i can provide screen caps of what i normally do to compress my videos as well as the codec settings

bump, no one has any ideas?
also can someone tell me why files/pictures should be labelled as 01, 02 or 001 002, with video/picture files is necessary? i mean i know they go from 1 to 10,11 then 2, 20 21 and so on but why does it do that?

Does it have profiles or anything like that? can you import compression settings from a codec? or can you only use those it has on the program?

It has built-in presets but you can create your own. This is the preset editor for the mp4 container.

It doesn't go down to that level. Apart from frame size all you can specify is the codec, frame rate and bit rate.

Hmmm maybe ive got another idea in my head, it might take twice as long but if it gets what i want... i was thinking compress it with virtual dub, and then use any video editor to add what i want, then render without compression of thats even possible...

Why don't you just try Freemake and see if it does what you want.
