    Photoshop CS4 Fails

I had installed Photoshop CS4 and updates on Win 7 32-bit. It was working for a while.

Now, whenever I start Photoshop, the splash screen displays followed by the message that "Adobe Photoshop CS4 has stopped working." The event log contains:
Faulting application name: Photoshop.exe, version: 11.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x48d3882e
Faulting module name: MSVCR80.dll, version: 8.0.50727.4927, time stamp: 0x4a2752ff
    Exception code: 0xc0000005
    Fault offset: 0x0002880f
    Faulting process id: 0x1738
    Faulting application start time: 0x01ca4f50f24e61ea
    Faulting application path: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS4\Photoshop.exe
    Faulting module path: C:\Windows\WinSxS\x86_microsoft.vc80.crt_1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b_8.0.50727.4927_none_d08a205e442db5b5\MSVCR 80.dll

I tried uninstalling all Photoshop components, rebooting, and reinstalling. The same failure occurs, whether Photoshop updates have been applied or not.

    Bridge CS4 works fine.

Has anyone else had this problem?

    I'd appreciate any suggestions!

Well, never mind, it appears to have been some kind of problem with Photoshop preferences. I started Photoshop with Alt+Shift+Ctrl and the problem went away.

Hmm... Is it just a 32-bit thing? PS-CS4 seems to be working fine in Win7 64-bit. I am running the 32-bit version of PS.

If you hold down the Ctrl, Alt, and Shift keys when starting Photoshop, Photoshop erases its preferences data while starting. This is the Photoshop architected way of recovering from corrupted preferences data.

Oh. So there is no Windows standard use for ctrl-alt-shift?
