Where is my search function to search my computer?

On my start menu the ability to search for files is gone, how do infer that to return?

Maybe somehow search got turned off on your PC?
See if this tutorial helps for turning it on to restore the Search Box.
Windows Search - Turn On or Off

If that doesn't help, do you have a Restore Point from before the problem started?
If you do, you could try using System Restore.
