Windows 7 Ultimate x64

I've never used ebay, the pc was custom built and installed by a friend. So is the problem rooted in the copy of the OS?

That is correct SunFlowerSeeds. You need to install a correct and legal copy of Windows 7. That is the place to start.

You can find an Builder's OEM copy of Win7 for around $90 at a major retail site like or Amazon.

Until then you could install a Linux distro which is free and well liked by many users, including those who help here.

We can not help you except on how to install a legal copy of Windows or another legal operating system.

(at the risk or repeating what's already been said....)

The installation is counterfeit.
he Product Key is for a preinstalled Windows 7 on an ASUS motherboard - the motherboard here is a retail (MSI?) one, and has never seen the inside of an OEM factory.

The OP will have to reformat and reinstall using legitimate media and Key.
