It looks right in the pic. If the iso runs in a vm, it must be fine. It is probabaly going to be quicker if you etract it onto a usb stick.

If you are happy with it, you can get the boot.wim out of the ISO\sources folder, and pop it into your Recovery\long-guid folder right next to winre.wim.

Then rename winre.wim to something like winre-orig.wim. Next rename boot.wim to winre.wim.

That means it will start up on F8 "Repair My Computer"

    Thanks for that tip.

Now that I have successfully created an ISO, I will try to add programs and shortcuts and see if I can get that to work. :)

    Update

I successfully created a second PE ISO and included shortcuts for CCleaner and Speccy (which I added).

I didn't get shortcuts for ESET and AOMEI.
Was I supposed to create those manually?

AOMEI still didn't accept that I had registered it before running the PE builder.
I checked its status in the VM before the second attempt (the VM considers it to be registered).

Also, Process Explorer and Defraggler were included again.

Since I forgot to reboot my VM and I ran those programs before my first attempt, could they have been added from the VM's RAM or SuperFetch?

I don't need to "register" Aomei in any way. It should automatically pick up Aomei Backupper and partition assistant Free or Pro if you have them installed. If you add things in manually, then you will need to create your own shortcuts.

Eset shortcut is in the start menu. Aomei Backupper shortcut should be on the desktop. Aomei Partition Assistant should be on the taskbar.

    Weird

I mean that AOMEI, on the PE disc, asks for my Product Key each time I start it.

    That's what I thought.

    I don't see those items.

You know what they say about making things idiot-proof.

In any case, these are only minor issues.
    Thanks for providing this tool.

    That looks pretty good.

No idea what happened to those couple of programs. If you find out how you managed to mess them up , let me know, I can't reproduce it here.

If you get it out of the vm, you will find sound works great. Flash, too.

The locations of AOMEI and the ESET look correct to you?

I accepted the default install settings for AOMEI and the ESET installation was offered by the tool.

I didn't edit the pecmd.ini data for those programs (I only added entries for CCleaner and Speccy).

I'll have a poke around on the weekend, but if you couldn't see anything strange, I seriously doubt that I'll find anything.

Isn't Flash going to be problematic, given its weekly update cycle?

I have a large collection of "How to ..." files for Windows.
Is it possible to include the "How to ..." files (txt files and pictures)?

No, pe doesn't update. It stays exactly the same, unless you mount it manually to add programs, etc.

    I realise that. :)

That is why I mentioned Flash, because it always needs to be updated, since it is such a security hazard.
It would be painful to fix your OS, only to discover later that a Flash exploit corrupted your repaired OS.

Still ... wouldn't a USB PE be more vulnerable, than a CD PE, because it can be written to?

I have never heard of anybody having any kind of infection via pe, ever. If you want to update Flash, it is simple. Just replace "Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash\NPSWF32.dll"
