Seeking a recommendation for android software :)

    Hello my friends,
Yes I realize this is a "Windows" forum and that I should ask this question in a "Linux" or "Android" forum but I am asking here because I know a few if not many of you are familiar with android and I trust the views of my fellow "techies" on this forum. I have asked this question in several Android and Linux forums but cannot seem to get a true answer. This might be a little winded but please bear with me a moment.

What I am looking for is a recommendation on software for an android tablet. Let me explain.
Our supplier has donated 10 new Asus 7" Tablets running Android 4.1 to a teen center in our little town. We have donated 6 computers ourselves. Now the PC's are using "Live Family Safety" from MS and it seems to work great at keeping the detrimental sites from being loaded on those machines. What we are hoping to find is something similar for the Android tablets. Now I know I can go into the google play store and there are literally hundreds of options. The reviews leave a lot to be desired and seem like they are posted just so they can see their names online or something, or they just flat out hate everything.

What we need is a Web blocker to keep the porn and hate sites to a manageable minimum. These are teens we are talking about here so I hold no illusion that it will be 100% effective. We are able to "Lock" them out of apps and settings so they wont be able to bypass a safe browser. I tried 7 different browsers and 4 different "Parental" programs last night and I will need to reset the tablet to factory as it is so mucked up just from the garbage they list on the play store.

If anyone has an Idea or needs more info please let me know.

    Thank you
    Herb

    Thank you Nick
I tried k9 last night but I think the tablet might have been too mucked up at that point. All it would do is open the settings after installation. It placed an icon to settings on the desktop but nothing to the browser itself. Then after setting the admin mode it allowed me to open the settings and uninstall without entering a password. I thought "wow this is really secure" . I will try it again on a fresh machine

Android jellybean (OS) for tablets has a user profile option. You can make a kid friendly limited account and can choose what apps they use. Web filtering though is not an option though....
I know with rooted android devices you could use a dns filter service...

only works on Android 4.2 jellybean and above. Feature not included in 4.1 and I cannot root these machines due to warranty. good thought though. Thanks for that.

Ah, I saw 4.1 and was thinking 4.1.2. Plus I saw asus and was thinking nexus 7. Is it not the nexus? Cause the nexus would have the latest version. Sorry about that. I'll keep looking for ya. I'll let you know if I find anything.
