My downloads will not install.
I recently had a problem with my SSD (which I got primarily for my OS to boot up from) filling up with too much stuff. I tried defrag and disk clean up but I only got about 4-5 GB of space, which was rapidly filling up again. So I tried just copying a hodgepodge of files from the drive (C:\program files and C:\Program files (86)) into my main drive (F:\Downloads) This had obvious repercussions. Soon, some of my old programs didn't work because the icons were not found in their proper folder. No problem, I just made new icons for what I was trying to use. THEN I attempted to change the download directory for all new downloads/installs. I went into my regestry editor and changed the following info:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/C:
to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/F:
That had further repercussions and I knew I had screwed something up. In order to try to fix my mistake, I merged what I thought were the most important folders back to the C: drive from F: and changed my regestry back to it's default settings. Things seem to be working better but I'm back at square 1 with my SSD filling up with information. Additionally when I download anything from the internet the file is not actually downloaded and I cannot install it.
When I click the "Download" button typically there is a pop up box with a "save", "run", "open with" option. For this instance I clicked the "save" option then OK. The download appears to be working in my FireFox browser. I can see the status of the download. Then nothing happens. Normally an installer box should appear after download is completed. That isn't the case here. So I try to view my downloaded items in firefox downloads. I am able to see what I downloaded, but I cannot click on the .exe file. Additionally, when I right click the file I am unable to "open containing folder". I navigated to the folder the files should have been downloaded and there is nothing there.
