Cannot install software due to corrupt install files

    Hi all,

I have a brand new computer running windows 7 home prem 64bit. Windows 7 installation is only one day old so all drivers are new. This is happening when trying to install different software installation files downloaded from the internet. I have downloaded these different installers (from different sources/websites) using firefox and IE (and IE with no addons) with the same result.

The .exe or extraction file downloads ok. When I run the installer I get different versions of the same message that a file is missing or the file is corrupted.

I have tried disabling anti virus and the windows firewall. I have also tried restarting the windows installer service. I have also tried the Microsoft fixit solution 50123.

I have also had problems with windows updates specifically the malicious software removal tool KB890830. I get the error 80200053 even though I have no Anti virus processes running at all!

This happened a week ago as well so I did a complete reinstall of windows 7 yesterday and this problem has reappeared on the new install!

Please tell me an example software you are trying to install, and tell me the error message you get from trying to do so.

Hi there Slasher, thanks for replying.

Example 1 is Java Runtime Enironment: Error: Downloaded File C:Users.....\jre1.6.0_25-c-l.msi is corrupt.

It then offers to run compatibility and I've tried running as admin and with xp sp2 compat but still no joy.

Is your Windows 7 fully updated with SP1 and all the other updates?

There's two Windows Updates that always fail to install (Error: 80200053). The two that can't download are KB890830 (maliciousSoftware Removal tool 64bit), KB2434419 Windows Live Essentials.

When you re-installed Windows 7, was the installation of Windows 7 from your OEM or the original Windows 7 disc (or .iso) from Microsoft?

My laptop came with a recovery partition with Windows 7 on it. I just started the recovery console. My next step I guess is write the OS to DVD and completely wipe HD and reinstall...I really hoped there would be some solution except that... :)

Well, the problem seems to be coming from your OEM copy of Windows 7. You should install vanilla Windows 7, and then download the drivers for your computer from your OEM website.

Thanks for the advice. Do you know if the OEM can provide me with a copy of vanilla Windows 7 in this circumstance? Or is it enough just to create and use the restore disc that my recovery partition creates?

I doubt the OEM has a problem. Are you using wired or wireless to download?
