Adding user restrictions - 7 home premium

    Hi all,

I had a quick questions on how to restrict user from adding icons or changing the desktop. The main Administrator account on the computer is not active and there is only one user account with Administrator privileges.

The computer is running Windows 7 Home Premium. I've searched around a bit and it seemed like all the answer had something to do with opening Group Policy which isn't available on Home Premium.

    Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Personally I would do this.

    C:\Users\%username%

You will then see a 'Desktop' folder. Right click > Properties > Security > Edit

Set the %username% to only have Read & List folder contents.

    Hope that helped.

Just create a standard user and have them use that, and change the admin password so they cannot use it.

    See here:

    User Account - Create

    User Account Type - Change

Password - Create for a User Account

There is also the guest account which only lets them use what software is already on the computer, and will not let any changes be saved.

Guest Account - Turn On or Off
