I always wondered why I never had a snipping tool in Vista when everybody else obviously did until I realised that removing/disabling the tablet PC disables it
    Been there.

Found an equivalent for my XP rig: JING

There is a pack at Microsoft's site that is supposed to download the Tablet PC Extras to any XP rig but it doesn't work. CNet have a big discussion going on about it right now.

Well, now that is sorted I'll boot back into my Windows 7.

you should give faststone a go it has some good editing features as well and you can add text, it's what I always use all the time. If you want to capture a whole screen with a menu or something open, just hit the print screen button to capture full screen or if you want to capture a web page it will allow you to capture a scrolling webpage, it's a very useful tool.

i use Window Clippings myself. it's not freeware ($18) but it's really worth the money. it has all the best features of faststone, but it's capable of capturing the alpha transparency of aero glass and shadows, which makes for some really nice screenshots.

below is a screenshot of a screenshot. i captured the gadgets window first, then loaded it into photoshop to show the transparency. cool!

and here is the original screenshot as a PNG with transparency:

Yeh, shame it's not working in X64 Ultimate Build 7057. Keeps coming up telling me to restart and try again, or that Magnifier.dll is not available.

Good on ya, Bill. Tempt us with a nice little script and what happens? The bloody thing doesn't work!

What do you mean "gadgets screen" ? It's not a gadget if you mean sidebar gadgets, it's found in Windows 7 > Start > All Programs > Accessories
