What system maintenance software do you use?

Hundreds of system maintenance software out there for us to choose from. Popular ones seem to be CCleaner; Advanced SystemCare; Tuneup Utilities, etc. Just wondering are they really do what they are supposed to? How many of you have purchased one?

I posted a thread about slow issue a few weeks ago. Also, I read the tutorials and did what it said. Still, I prefer to get things sorted out in a quick and easy way.

    I agree with ICit2lol.

Is this the thread you are referring to about "slow issue"?
pc start up slowly and freeze

e replied to you in that thread, and you never replied back.
When anyone asks for help in SF, they should reply back ...

If the OP does not answer questions and reply with feedback, how can anyone else here know how to try and offer more help?

Sorry for not replying in time. As soon as I got the reply, I clicked the link and went to the tutorial and forgot to reply. But I do thank him/her for the help.

I just did the reply. My apology.

I think everyone wants to fix things as quick and easy as possible when problems arise.
So here is my 2 cents for what I have learned.
Get a clean install, and then start making backup images.
Create images as often as you need to, depending on how you use a PC.

On my Primary Systems a monthly backup (Patch Tuesday) is more than enough for me.
I don't install/uninstall/reconfigure anything without first testing the change on my TEST systems.
I don't have a problem with restoring a previous image and losing a months worth of changes if I ever need to.

On my TEST systems, I often create backups much more often.
That's where I try new programs, play with things, etc.
When I try things here I create a new backup image before a "major change" so I can quickly back out and recover.

Many people have different opinions on how often to create backups, and how long and where keep the backup(s) to recover from a "disaster".

I think that is a personal choice, and each person needs to decide the best method they should use for themselves.
How much are you willing to lose or spend if/when a disaster happens?

I have 2 multi-boot PCs with backups stored on several "restore medias"...
I would not suggest using my approach, and I would not do it again going forward.
But, it does offer a whole lot of recovery capability...
It's costly and time consuming for this, but that's what I have now, so until I make a major home hardware upgrade, "It works for me".

I just love building new PCs, and I told myself the same thing to kill the itch that I tell others, basically:
"If your current PC it does what you need, you don't need a new PC"

glassofwater - you made me feel the new build itch

When I set up systems for people I only install two utilities anymore. CCleaner and Puran Utilities. I actually prefer Puran utilities now that I've used for the past two years.

As far as system maintenance is concerned I would suggest learning to do the tasks manually. Every bit of knowledge gained will increase your confidence in you and your machine when it comes to doing something more complicated later on.

Having said that I note that you want a "quick and easy" solution. Most of the "brand names" will do what they advertise with varying degrees of competence and aggression. AFTER you learn how to do the maintenance yourself find one that suits you. For me that's Ccleaner. Its safe, fast and not overly aggressive to your machine.

Just don't run so called optimization programs like Advanced Systemcare and Tuneup Utilities, which just usually delete important sections of the registry.
