System Mechanic vs Reimage vs Slim Cleaner Plus

I purchased System Mechanic for about $19. Works well. Improved my computer performance substantially. I subsequently downloaded the "free" Reimage and the Slim Cleaner Plus tools for comparison. The Slim Cleaner uncovered about 89,000 browser problems (no kidding! Over 89,000!) and a variety of registry, bad files, etc. problems that System Mechanic does not, and then asked me for about $40 to fix them. Reimage also uncovered a large set of browser, registry, bad files, etc. problems and asked for about $50 to fix them.

Who is correct? Are they each finding problems that the other does not? Or, is this just sales gimmicks? And, why can't Windows 7 uncover and fix these same problems?

Be very careful - these tools are designed around XP. Windows 7 does not require external registry cleaners/boosters etc. Many of these tools are gimmicks designed to make a quick dollar or two. Windows doesn't find any, because there probably aren't any. I think you may have been duped. I would recommend avoiding them.

More than most are scams. Windows 7 needs little help in maintaining the system. Problems that do arise are more likely malware, errant or out of date drivers. Windows 7 already has cleaning utilities available to the user. And there's more than a few FREE good third party programs that can help with malware.

You should run AdwCleaner and MBAM for starters to make sure you haven't downloaded some PUPs or hijackers along with those cleaners. Both are free and frequently used by most on this site. As with any software install, pay close attention to the options. Always select "custom" so you can see what is being installed or review the install screen carefully. MBAM Free version may include a pre-checked tool bar or Chrome browser for instance. Also, don't select the "trial" version; download the free version. But the MBAM software is good.

There's no install for AdwCleaner. You download it and run as Administrator.

Ops, Golden posted while I was typing and looking the links. In any case, what he said. :)

I do agree with Golden and carwiz.
Windows 7 doesn't want or need those programs you picked.
I also recommend running the scans that carwiz has posted.
You will be surprised the trash they will find.

When your done removing all the junk I recommend following this Tutorial by Brink.

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

What this does is check Windows 7 files to make sure they are as they should be. If not it will try to correct the errors.

    Please post back your results.
