    Alternative to Excel?

Hi - can someone recommend an alternative to Excel? Hopefully a freebie, as I almost never need to do spreadsheets. Looking for something that had the ability to edit and save files - not just read.

    Thanks in advance.

    As SilverProtocol said, there is

Apache OpenOffice - The Free and Open Productivity Suite (descended from OpenOffice.org) and Home » LibreOffice (forked from OpenOffice)
    Both are basically cousins :)

Never was a huge fan of OpenOffice. Unfortunately, it is the next-best comparable product though. Nothing really is the same as Excel though.

If you had to have another program other than Excel, and you're hoping for free, I would concur, OpenOffice would be the better choice.

FreeOffice PlanMaker - feature-packed and compatible

The best free spreadsheet IMO, that has a much better compatibility with Microsoft Excel than all others, is FreeOffice PlanMaker. It's included in SoftMaker FreeOffice, a fast and reliable free office suite I can strongly recommend. Download it here for Windows or Linux and try it out: freeoffice.com/en
