    Webroot desktop firewall won't uninstall.

I upgraded from Vista home premium to Windows 7 home premium without much of a hitch, except for one exception.

I had trouble with a couple of Webroot products. I got a message, that my firewall was turned off and needed to be turned on. I had both Webroot Spysweeper and Desktop firewall running. I tried to uninstall the desktop firewall and was told the program only would work on Windows XP and Vista and it would not allow me to uninstall it. I know that I can't run two firewalls at the same time as they may conflict.

I also had trouble with the Spysweeper. I had version 5.5 and Windows 7 would allow me to uninstall it. I managed to get the most up to date Spysweeper 6.1 and it managed to install and remove the old 5.5 without a problem.

When updating from Vista to 7, I was never told to uninstall the Webroot products during the installation process. I was told to uninstall two other programs during the upgrade and I did that, but never was told to remove the Webroot products.

    Any help will be appreciated.

See if CCleaner can uninstall it for you ... CCleaner - Home

Once installed, click on the 'tools' icon. If it is able to be uninstalled, then go to C:\Programs and delete the folder.

I tried CC cleaner (the most up to date version) and it didn't work either.

Stop the process in services. Type services.msc in the start search box and try again.

I fixed it. Download Webroot Internet Essentials, TRIAL version. As part of the install, it removes the old version. When it's fully installed, DO NOT RE-BOOT. Just tell Windows you will re-boot later. Then without launching, go to the Control Panel and uninstall the trial version. Once that last step is finished, re-boot and you won't find Webroot on your system.

Of course, if you are in love with Webroot, you can re-boot and launch when it asks the first time.

Caveat: You must ensure Windows firewall and any other antivirus program is not operating before installing the trial version but you don't usually have to uninstall those.

The funny thing is that Webroot SpySweeper seems version 6.1 seems to disable the Webroot Desktop firewall as well as the Windows firewall. I don't know why. I installed the PC Tools free firewall and everything seems to be working fine now.
