    Windows 7 - Upgrade Advisor !

I have a HP Pavilion DV6 1140ea. I have ordered a Windows 7 Upgrade Package from HP. I downloaded and installed Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor. I did the scan. It was able to upgrade. The following programs said something:

ATI Catalyst Install Manager - Reinstall after upgrade - Before upgrading to Windows 7, we recommend unistalling this program. It can be safely reinstalled after the upgrade.

Catalyst Control centre - Reinstall after upgrade - Before upgrading to Windows 7, we recommend unistalling this program. It can be safely reinstalled after the upgrade.

HP MediaSmart DVD - Update available - We don't have compatibility information about this version of the program

HP MediaSmart Music/Photo/Video - Reinstall after upgrade - Before upgrading to Windows 7, we recommend unistalling this program. It can be safely reinstalled after the upgrade.

HP MediaSmart TV - Update available - We don't have compatibility information about this version of the program

iTunes - Reinstall after upgrade - Before upgrading to Windows 7, we recommend unistalling this program. It can be safely reinstalled after the upgrade.

Why do I have to reinstall some programs after upgrading ? I've seen other people just continue to upgrade and it works normally. It is compatible with Windows 7. But why do Microsoft recommend me to reinstall the following programs after the upgrade ? I don't want to do this. I just want to continue upgrading. Will it work if I just don't unistall the programs and carry on with Upgrading to Windows 7 ?

The reason you have to reinstall them after the upgrade is due to a need to reassign registry locations, enviroment variables, etc (the reasons are numerous).

If you don't uninstall them first CHANCES ARE THE UPGRADE WILL REFUSE TO FINISH. If you are allowed to continue....there will be quite a risk that those programs will partially work or won't work at all

HP told me that, you do not need too reinstall programs after upgrading because they are providing me with a HP Upgrade Assistant Disc and a Windows 7 Installation Disc. It's got all the latest updates for software's and hardware. So problem solved guys.

    Thanks for your support anyway

I marked it as solved...but even with the HP upgrade disc...you still have to reinstall your video driver software after the upgrade

    Keep this in mind

Nope you don't. It's only asking me to reinstall ATI Catalyst Install Manger (Catalyst Control Centre). This is not important. To bare in mind this is just a software. You don't unistall the Video Driver. HP told me that Microsoft are just warning you. For example, Microsoft reccomand people to upgrade but people prefer to do a custom install.

That is true...it is just a warning...you can take it or leave it

I will say that if you end up having issues with your GFX or your HP apps or any other apps on your computer because you ignored Microsoft warnings about its own OS because a company that has nothing to do with their OS told you its okay...than that won't be a fault on Microsoft's part or a fault of the advice give here on SF

Just wanted to make that known

What does GFX stand for ?
HP and Microsoft combined together to make the HP Windows 7 Upgrade Program.

    Graphics Card...

They may have combined together...but HP didn't make Windows 7, Microsoft did

I would take Microsoft's warnings about their OS over HP's word (but this is just me)
