    Windows Error Reporting pt 2

Ok so I disabled WER couple weekds ago due to it slowing down my connection as it was reporting hundreds of issues with GLID.

Now that there appears to be no more GLID problems I would like to re-enable WER so I can help MS improve Windows 7.

Unfortunately it wont restart. When I go into Services and change startup type from disabled to automatic or manual an error saying "The system cannot find the path specified" comes up. Is there anything I need to enable before restarting this service?

    Hi Swarfega,

Did you already undo this as well if you did it to?

Yes I did, its currently set to 1. Im relunctant to enable that again for WMP as it was that which was generating all those errors. Unless theres a way to enable WER for everything EXCEPT WMP.

    Swarfega,

You might see if running a sfc /scannow command can fix the problem with the path not being found.

I do not know how to do it with only WMP not included, but you should be able to also enable it through the Local Group Policy Editor. It will be under Computer Configuration->Administrative Templates->System->Internet Communication Management->Internet Communication settings, then disable (not configured) Turn off Windows Customer Experience Improvement Program.

    Swarfega,

My WER Service is set to Manual and not started by default.

Right click on the WER Service and click on the Log On tab, then double check to make sure that only Local System account is selected.

I'm having the same problem with several services and I can't enable them again,

    Services that wont start are:

    Computer Browser: Disabled

IKE and AuthIP IPsec Keying Modules: Disabled

    Human Interface Device Access: Disabled

    IPsec Policy Agent: Disabled

KtmRm for Distributed Transaction Coordinator: Disabled

Net.Msmq Listener Adapter, Set to Auto but wont start; Error 1075: The dependency service does not exist or has been marked for deletion.

    Portable Device Enumerator Service: Disabled

    Tablet PC Input Service: Disabled

    TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper: Disabled

    WebClient: Disabled

    Windows Defender: Disabled

Windows Driver Foundation - User-mode Driver Framework: Disabled

    Windows Error Reporting Service: Disabled

All services that are disabled show the message: The system cannot find the path specified.

This is serious! I have no prblems yet but am interested, now, in any other feedback. In Ms config, I have quite a few services which show stopped. They are mostly on manual in Services.msc, so I am not too concerned.
But,Mr.Grim, have you tried logging in under another usr or, better, as the global Administrator. Perhaps you need the latter to restart services?

Yes I tried in safe mode and I enabled the administrator account to see if that worked but still no difference, one thing I should mention is that UAC has been off since I installed, so I don't know if I have been infected with something that's stopping me from starting services.

Saying that, I have not seen any unusual network or CPU activity so I think this is something else, maybe some sort of device conflict or software that I installed. I also noticed the my Reliability monitor stopped after the second day of install so thats probably when the other services got disabled.
