Need file sharing software (not uTorrent type)

Is there some freeware that will allow my friends to upload and download files, to and from, my computer? I am looking for a server type I install and my friends only need a browser to access my files.

Why not use a cloud service like onedrive or google drive?

Quick and simple answer could be to use HFS server (HFS ~ HTTP File Server), it does all you want by installing a light web server running a simple web app that allows sharing your files and uploading others from clients. I've only superficially tried it, some time ago, but it seems like a good thing to try at least. To use over internet you will most likely need to port forward port 80 and to suscribe to some dynamic DNS service.

Of course, don't forgot about other possibilities like FTP, BitTorrent or VPNs.
