    Windows explorer crashing on startup

Hey guys, one of my friends is currently expirencing issues with their HP desktop computer. It's a "HP Compaq" I can't list any of the specs or anything of that nature because of the issue that we are encountering.

The issue is that when I start the computer up Windows explorer immediately crashes, a black "wallpaper" is all that can be seen along with a window that reads, "Windows explorer has stopped working." Giving me the options to close the program or check for a solution online. I can't connect to the internet because of the explorer not working.

When I open CTRL+ALT+DEL I can open the task manager, etc. If I try to run explorer.exe I just get the same window.

    Here's the problem details:

Program Signature: Problem Even Name: APPCRASH
    Application Name: Explorer.exe
    application version: 6.1.7601.1756

If I need to write out the rest of it I gladly will, it's a long list.

I started windows in safe mode and the explorer does indeed start - but not while starting normally. While in safe mode I did do a virus/malaware scan and it found nothing.

Try seeing if he has a System Restore Point from before the problem began. You can boot to safe mode and run SR

    Safe Mode

    System Restore

If you want, you can boot to Safe Mode with Command Prompt and type (or copy and paste)

    rstrui.exe

    Enter
