Using "Search Programs and Files"

The built-in Search Programs and Files leaves a lot to be desired. This morning I wanted to enter the Spanish más but the string would not accept the accented 'a' so I ended up with files containing my entire collection of Requiem Masses, files of recipes for masitas, a file about Mascagni, a file of notes on mass-emigration, etc. but also, some ten files each with a number of the Spanish más.

Is there a way of making Search Programs and Files accept accented letters? If not, are there any recommendation for a third-party desktop search program? Thanks in advance

It looks like File Locator Lite (aka Agent Ransack) can do what you want.
It's a nice free search utility, I've used it for years...

Ultra Search is a good search tool as well.

UltraSearch - Freeware for Ultra-Fast File Search

UltraSearch finds files and folders on local NTFS drives and provides the results in just a few seconds.
UltraSearch does not maintain an index which is stored on your harddisk, but achieves its speed by working directly on the Master File Table (MFT) of the NTFS partitions. UltraSearch even identifies NTFS hardlinks.
Simply enter a file name or a pattern like *.exe and see the first results while you are still typing. In addition, UltraSearch supports regular expressions.
Additional information like file size and file dates (last changes, last access and file creation) will be shown for all listed files. Naturally, the Explorer context menu is available inside UltraSearch.
UltraSearch enables you to exclude folders, files or file types from searches via an exclude filter. The search results can be sorted according to different criteria, printed or exported as text, RTF, HTML, CSV, and Excel file.
The 100 recently used search patterns can be saved and selected from a dropdown list. UltraSearch can suggest patterns or autocomplete manually entered patterns automatically.
UltraSearch can be started from the context menu of your Windows Explorer - starting a search within the selected directory could not be easier.
Use UltraSearch wherever you like thanks to the portable ZIP version.

Running a 64 bit operating system? UltraSearch is available in a 32 bit and a 64 bit version! Download your version today!

Thank you Subyroo for your reply. I downloaded your UltraSearch and installed it and tried it out (as I usually do) with the Spanish word "más" It immediately found 4 emails with the word más in the subject but missed about a hundred files with más in the text. These files are all ODTs or DOCs or TXTs. Am I missing something here?
Thanks in advance.

How can I change sort order for "Search Programs and files" results?
Hi How do I get the search box "search programs and files" (i.e. the one above the Start button) to sort the results within each section by DATE, rather than by name? Note I do NOT mean the search top right in Windows Explorer, which fwiw, is already working nicely in date order! Clue: I...
