Thanks for the tutorial, but I don't see anything in it that I haven't already done many times.
Right now right clicking on an .ini file and choosing edit, EP or open with EP all work fine (with the latter run with "always use this program" checked) but double click still results only in Notepad coming up.
Its interesting that right click and picking either edit or EditPlus works but double clicking (on an .ini file) doesn't despite the fact that under EP the txt setting is exclusively ini.
Because, contrary to the .ini behavior, .txt brings up EP when clicking either edit, EP or double clicking on the .txt file, I am going to "quit while I'm ahead" and consider all of your efforts a success and VERY much appreciated. I'm in awe of the patience and perseverance that have been extended to me. Thank you.
Hi again,
From what I understand so far some files open in EP when double clicked and some don't?
If you get the double click method working it immediately reverts back to the old settings, Or does it only revert after a reboot?
In any case for the problem files you could try the following method.
Open an explorer window and copy & paste this into the address bar:
%APPDATA%\Microsoft\Windows\SendTo
In the window that opens right click on a blank area and select New> Shortcut from the menu.
Then browse to your EP executable to create a shortcut to it.
Then close the window and find one of your problem files, right click it and choose "Send To" EP.
Let's see if that works!
Actually, all I have to do is right click on any file and select EP which does show up in the list and does bring EP up. Putting a shortcut in the SendTo folder would merely be a redundant way of doing the same thing.Open an explorer window and copy & paste this into the address bar:

Is there a reason for doing this other than provide a way of opening a file in EP?
Yes, a bazaar list of extensions do work, e.g., inc, sav, txt, inc, ind, all, asm and bak and default to EP; but inf, ini, log, nfo bring up Notepad. I don't believe rebooting has any effect on the problem. From what I understand so far some files open in EP when double clicked and some don't?

From what you've described there's no point in adding EP to the right click Send To menu!
I'd be tempted to leave things as they are.
All the best.
I agree. Even though its not working as it should, it is serving my needs. Again, thank you and this site for your tremendous diligence and expertise. It is very much appreciated.
