How do I manually install gpedit.msc on my Windows 7 Home Premium?

When I tried to update Chrome I got an (error:7) message that said I needed to use the group policy editor to change the Update Group Policy settings. But, apparently, Windows 7 Home doesnt have a Local Group Policy Editor that I can access. Can this be done manually somehow????

Gpedit.msc is not included with or compatible with home versions of Windows 7. This is by design.

If you more fully explain the problems you are having with Chrome someone should be able to help with that.

I do believe these hacks break the End User License Agreement which would make them illegal. If I'm correct then we should not be recommending ways to do illegal things on this forum.

As LMiller7 has posted. Tell us the problem you are having and most likely we will have members that can help you solve the problem in a proper fashion.

    Do you have administrator authority?

Sounds vain but here we go: My response to that Microsoft Community post you linked to has been marked as an answer because it really is the only valid answer to your question.

If you know that this is illegal, please remove the post. I have posted the link only because it was on the Microsoft Community forum.

I did not nor will I say it's illegal. I did in no way criticize you for posting that link. Microsoft Community is a semi official MS site, often referred to here at the SF.

I'm sorry Kari, that response was not directed to you but to Layback Bear. I should have been more specific.

I also do not want to do anything against the forum rules.

    I posted my understanding.
If my understanding is correct the moderators will take care of it.
I don't believe you want to break the rules. Nor do I.
I'm no lawyer but I do believe End User License Agreement has legal standing. Or the COA would mean nothing.
How about we just wait and see.

I read that the versions of Windows 7 that do not include gpedit will ignore the changes to global policy by design, even with gpedit tacked on or manual registry editing.

Anyone willing to test that and confirm?
