Was wondering something about VPN software

Hello. I don't know much about vpn and such but all I do know is it unblocks certain sites that are blocked in countries and such. Recently my ISP has blocked quite a few websites, mostly torrents, download sites and facebook sometimes doesn't work due to it being blocked. While I do know you can use proxies to get past these but it tends to be a pain and also doesn't seem to work.

So I came across this link Connect to VPN Gate by Using SoftEther VPN (SSL-VPN)

I'm not asking anyone to download it and test it. Just asking if it seems legit?? Or if anyone has another way I could switch between IP address without it affecting my internet speed. I've tried certain software but it becomes very slow

It **seems** legit, at least a nice option, even though I didn't test it. Apparently it offers a simple configuration to VPN into a proxy server for traffic relaying, but the winning point is that it's open source. Other than that, I can't tell, but googling a bit may reveal something else, more interesting and informed.

Of course, it can never change your IP address, that can only be done by your ISP (blocking whatever they want in the process), and using a proxy is always going to be slower than a direct connection, there isn't much you can do with it, as you're connecting though that server, and it's its speed what matters.
Try alternative, open DNS servers too.

For testing, I like to use a virtual machine, so that any potential problems are restricted to it instead of crashing the whole computer.
