Reader 9.2

10/29/09 - The latest version of Adobe Reader is 9.2.

My current OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Retail fresh install.


Adobe is constantly pulling shady acts that they don't tell you straight out about up front.

1. I installed Flash, Shockwave, and Reader. Low and behold, I find out that I have Adobe Download Manager installed in my computer. Was there any indication warning me that Download Manager would be installed? No! Was I given any option to choose between installing the Download Manager and some other method? No! It ended up being installed right under my nose. I might have even installed it if they asked, but probably not. The point is that they didn't even ask. End result: I'm PO on an epic scale! I'm seeing red!

2. OK so they parasitize "Reader_sl.exe" onto my system. This is nothing new. I don't eradicate it because it seems to make *.pdf files open faster. So it sits there lurking in the dark. And as far as I know, they stopped their evil hidden installation of AIR. Not that AIR itself is evil. It was just being installed without permission along with Reader instead of allowing us to decide whether we want to install it or not. So now it appears we can rest safely. Don't bet on it! Suddenly we find ourselves parasitized with "AdobeARM.exe". The worst thing about it is that there is no explanation about it anywhere to be found. It's called the "Adobe Reader and Acrobat Manager". It's a total mystery. If anybody can help, please let me know what this is. And also how to eradicate it if need be. Thanks!

So, skip Adobe Acrobat reader and using something much smaller and slimmer like Fox It PDF reader. I haven't used the Adobe reader program in so long, i forgot how big and bloated that it is.

when you installed Shockwave? Sad part is that was from their so called "slim" install. And they are trying to foist off the McAfee scan on the Flash download page,

Haven't checked it IE8 yet, but in Firefox instead of just getting the Flash installer you get this,



P.S. If you haven't tried it yet, Foxit is a great alternative to the bloatware Reader.

Some of my software can't recognize Foxit. I tried Foxit years ago, but had a conflict opening a the help instructions in Vue. For some reason, it needed Adobe Reader to open it. That's the only reason I even continued using Reader.

I didn't get that Norton thing becase I didn't go Slim with Shockwave. But at least they ask you if you want that Norton garbage. You have the option. I'm not sure exactly what the difference is between slim and full, but I think the slim is missing features. Here is the only explanation I found: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/195/tn_19523.html

I didn't bother with the download manager, I just selected to use http downloads of the items instead :)

In regards to AdobeARM.exe this is the Adobe Reader and Acrobat Manager which is for managing future updates and controlling JavaScript execution aswell as other features.

Maybe if you haven't tried Fox It for years that it's worth another look now. I haven't used anything but Fox It for Windows in years and have had very few problems with compatibility.
