well it IS possible but it says you are in restricted access mode (something like that) and whatever it restores is permanent. Would I lose the picture files if I continue?
With system restore you won't lose any jpg, xls, doc, mp3 etcetera files.

"restricted access mode"??? Exact message please. Try the last restore point or the one before that (write down date/time).

it says no restore points have been opened on ypur computers systemdrive. to create a restor point open system protection.
i click on system protection it says
your computer is running on limited diag. state. if you use sys restore in this limite state you cannot undo the restore operation

Do you know what you're doing??? Just clicking on all options is not a good thing to do.

    Did this get solved?

Hi I'm having the same exact problem here. I am running windows 7 but how this happened was that I downloaded malwarebytes and got rid of some malware/viruses. It said to restart my computer and I did. Once it loaded back up, it went to start-up repair mode and couldn't fix it. I tried doing a system restore but what happened the him is what happened to me. Does someone know how to fix this?
