How to dedicate a symbol from the Character Map to an unused key

Its in the title, really. Is it possible to have a regularly used character from a font's Character Map (Word) dedicated to an unused keyboard key, so that it's available with one keystroke?

Try this application from Microsoft. Hope it works for you.

Download Microsoft Keyboard Layout Creator 1.4 from Official Microsoft Download Center

Thanks for this reply. Unfortunately the Layout Creator only seems to show the main keyboard area, all of the keys I do use. I would have liked to used others, such as the 'arrow' or seperate numerals keys for my dedicated alternatives.

Open Character Map, click a symbol or character then look at the bottom right, should show the default shortcut key combination to use. For example the Ø key combo is Alt+0216. It's not a 1-key solution but if used frequently it will become second nature. Or make a sticker for it on the keyboard.
