File Assocations tab missing in WMP 12 choices

I wanted to change the file association in WMP 12 so it would play a DVD when one is inserted. Going to Default Programs, in the start menu doesn't help me, WMP isn't in the list of default programs, in the left pane. I don't know why. Also it's not there under START|PROGRAMS I had to add it......

If I open the TOOLS | OPTIONS in WMP there is no tab marked OPTIONS in the list that comes up. I thought there was one of these where you can change the default file associations even after you've installed / set up, WMP.

Although I don't mind VLC,but I prefer to use WMP as the player for a DVD. No, I don't know what the extension is for a DVD, I don't think it's .TS but maybe it is

    Thanks!

Also, right-clicking a particular file opens a Context menu that may have Open with... on it, if not hold down the Shift key while right-clicking. In that resulting menu are programs, may have to browse to find the exact program desired. The list may have a place at the bottom to check to set as default.

Following your instructions I get no " Open with" option no matter what I do. That does work for a file but not a CD/ DVD or so it seems.

    The solution was :

START | CONTROL PANEL | DEFAULT PROGRAMS | SET PROGRAM ACCESS ETC. | CUSTOM ...... choose WMP from the listings.
