Probably true. I wrestled with my device/software for a few years as things changed hands. Drivers and applications could not be found or didn't work in conjunction.

Anyway maxie... you're really good at finding these things, so I defer to your experience and judgement.

The hardest trick re: biometrics is the security attached to the device/software. I think this is why firewolf3251 is having a difficult time even after a restore. By default the biometrics leave a breadcrumb so that password management isn't easy to override by simply uninstalling software and/or driver.

I'm on a few tough threads at the moment, but am subscribed to this. If you need my halp later on, I'll see what I can do.

This, in my view, isn't a critical issue - firewolf3251 can still log in, just not with the bio device .. correct?

My apologies, my brain must be scrambled by working on the tough threads

On the download page for your machine, there are a few tabs.
    [Driver] ...... [Application] ....

The fingerprint application is on the ... Application tab and is clearly identified

Once you get the driver/software resolved (maxie is right, you probably only need the application, but if you've mucked about - get both)
After installing what you need, restart (my prescription any time HW is involved) then go to Control Panel
Look for a cmdlet for your biometric device or your fingerprint application.
One of those should have the ability to clear the DB - that's most likely what you need to do. As I've mentioned with my own FP reader, it isn't always easy or straight forward. I hope your configuration isn't as troublesome as mine was.

side note: Windows 8 provides all the drivers and applications software without having to go to HP. I instlled Win8 and it worked flawlessly. Just a note in case you upgrade to Win8 or better wait for Win10.
