    hi Ex Brit

thanks for the reply...but as I said in my post I did go to the microsoft site previously and I also tried your link and in both cases it said messenger was already installed so that didn't solve my problem.

What did work for me was a freeware utility called ZapMessenger which removed the previous install.

Only then was I able to download and install messenger directly from the microsoft site, and once completed, messenger worked.

doesn't work to me, using Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit here, with Windows Live Messenger 14

I want to uninstall coz my Windows Live Messenger keeps displaying error code "80040154" while trying to sign in. I've tried WLMInstaller & Zapmessenger but they don't work.

Just wanna fix my Windows Live Messenger that's all, any help?

have you tried the suggested cure here it appears to be a .dll that needs to be reregistered , use the Vista fix on that page and see what happens ?

    Use Windows Live Essentials uninstall

I'm using windows 7 and found I had to run Windows Live Essentials found in Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features. The dialog shows which Live software will be uninstalled.

I'm not sure which version of Messenger I had but it's not installed anymore.
