i am novice but can't really grasp how hardware can add something to the system then when the HW is removed the driver whatever simply doesn't persist, i really can't comprehend why the OS needed to know about this device?

You should check in the Control Panel > Programs list to see if you see Winpower software listed. If so, you could uninstall it.

I have an UPS on my computer center -- although I don't have the shutdown software active, we can do that ourselves. Gardenlen, we're talking desktop, correct? Because if desktop, if the power "blinks" or browns out, desktop powers off suddenly, without warning, whatever work was in progress -- now depends upon the last backups auto-made by whatever programs were active.
